As-Needed Sediment Sampling, Characterization and Disposal Consultation Services

San Francisco East Marine Harbor
San Francisco Marina East Harbor
Client: City and County of San Francisco (City) Department of Public Works (SF DPW), Bureau of Construction Management Site Assessment and Remediation Division

Prime Contractor: Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC)

Location: San Francisco, California

Scope of Services: Provide as-needed consultation services to SF DPW for sediment characterization monitoring programs to support maintenance dredging and new construction dredging along the City's Bay front, inland lakes and reservoirs.

San Francisco Marina East Harbor Shoreline Screening Investigation: The proposed renovation of the East Harbor by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department included the performance of a shoreline soils investigation before dredging of the channel and berthing areas. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the potential for the near-harbor portion of the upland area to contribute contaminants (primarily PAHs) to East Harbor sediments during dredging.

Tasks: ADH procured and managed the utility clearance contractor and the direct push technology (DPT) drilling contractor to carry out this work. Twelve soil borings were advanced to a maximum depth ranging from 24 to 54 feet below ground surface along targeted areas of the East Harbor shoreline perimeter, and an ADH registered geologist provided field support of soil borings, collection of samples, and lithological logging.
