Location: California State Highway 1 at Devil’s Slide, San Mateo County, California

Goals: To provide routine inspections of storm water and non-storm water treatment systems for construction activities at the Devil's Slide tunneling project which have the potential to impact water quality in the receiving waters (Pacific ) in respect to the projects' Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).

Project Description:

  • Preparation of a comprehensive checklist for operations requiring inspection
  • Inspection of storm water controls
  • Evaluation of water treatment systems
  • Monitoring shotcrete usage to determine conformance with regulatory conditions
  • Weekly and monthly summary reporting
  • Collaboration on annual reporting

Preparation: A review of all relevant water quality information - including permits and contractor submittals – related to the project was performed and an initial site visit was conducted to gather information needed to develop a comprehensive checklist for use during field inspections. In consultation with Caltrans, ADH also formulated a mechanism for tracking shotcrete quantities in conformance with the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board criteria for onsite disposal.
